Ear We Go – Again!

We at SMMC and Squeeze Towers, after an autumn of r&r (research & relentless development) – are more than delighted to be able to announce that in the very near future we will be launching 2 incredibly exciting initiatives based around the awesome SMMC App, and of course our flag-waving standard bearers, SQUEEZE.

In association with our friends at Fred Perry, and their fantastic Sub-Culture website, we will be bringing you an “up close and personal” so intimate it should come with a personal space warning. Every single day of the tour, resident video blogger and occasional drummer Simon Hanson will be bringing us his unique take on the tour happenings, in the form of a short movie ….. delivered direct to the SMMC Subculture App.

Along with this, Captain Alice will be bringing us the Captain’s Blog – the diary of a tour manager. Alice will give us her insight and stories and experiences of how its going on the road, and is even threatening to throw in some pictures.

And finally – the inimitable and incomparable Chris Difford will be bringing us his bird’s eye view of the tour, daily – with Diff’s Pics, his choice of documentation from his very own camera.

All brought to you by Fred Perry Subculture. Every Day throughout the tour.

We aim to please.

Another exciting announcement to follow.

CD CD’s almost gone

We have been literally inundated with orders for the Ltd Edition signed and numbered CD of “Cashmere If You Can”.

True to our word these originals will NOT be remanufactured, as we move on to finished CD copies with new artwork. We are running out fast – so now’s the time!

Cashmere If You Can ….. The CD!

It finally time for us to be able to tell you that as per SO MANY requests, the official CD release of “Cashmere If You Can” has been confirmed for mid November. The CD will come with brand new artwork, in a lavish digipak.

The CD will be made available very exclusively – at the merch stands on the Squeeze tour, and direct from this website, and the Squeeze website.

We will also be releasing a new SMMC version of full album, with the new artwork.

Chris is delighted. So are we.

And we hope you will be too.

The End … but just the beginning.

Oh the mixed emotions at SMMC Towers as we realise that there is no Chapter to put to bed. What to do with Friday evenings again? …. what to do at 11.59pm as we flick the switch and wait for the digits to tick to 00.00 so we can be the first to test the new Chapter once it’s live? …. to see the mails come flooding in, the happy words of the members, the feedback, the competition entries…. (Well, Eastenders is back on the cards for a start.)

But the 11 Week run of Chris Difford’s Saturday Morning Music Club has come to end. Will Friday nights and Saturday Mornings seem empty? “Not at all” is the answer. We have filled your computer with music, videos, photos and words …. but it doesnt end there. Cashmere If You Can is still available in its entirety, along with all the extra material we have been providing over the last 11 weeks. That’s a total of 37 songs, 11 video, countless photos, all the lyrics and loads loads more.

And that’s not to mention the whole of the Squeeze Best Of “Spot The Difference” album, which is a TOTAL exclusive outside of the USA until its UK physical release in October – and of course the SMMC Digital Edition of Glenn Tilbrook’s awesome “Pandemonium Ensues” which includes 6 extra recordings unavailable anywhere else.

And at SMMC Towers we are now working on a range of new titles to bring you – we will be bringing you news of these very soon.

In the meantime, sign up to our mailing list, keep coming back, and remember -

Every day’s a Saturday!

The Pen-Ultimtatum

SMMC Towers. A hive of activity as ever, with an Autumn feeling at the moment. It’s in the air. Because today is the penultimate Chapter of the marvellous “Cashmere If You Can”, Chris Difford’s masterpiece of a solo album.

The good news is that there is 1 (one) Chapter to go next week; which will bring you the final track and also bring you a resolution to a running theme throughout the record …. and in particular to this week’s lead song.

Today we bring you “Wrecked” – a Floydian masterpiece of epic proportions with a build bigger than South East London’s run up to the 2012 Olympics. It’s about drinking too much, and not drinking, it’s about taking drugs, and not taking drugs.  It’s about a whole lot more, and it’s a lazy meander through the past with a whisper and a Lou Reed vibe, which ends as a scream in a true latter day Pink Floyd style barrage of noise. It’s the least Difford-esque of all the Difford tracks; and yet the most. And it leaves an open ended rhetorical question which is only to be resolved next week, in the last Chapter.

Also in today’s Chapter: if “Wrecked” is the least Difforde-esque track on “Cashmere If You Can”, then “Turnaround” is the least Difford-esque track in the whole of Saturday Morning Music Club’s catalogue of extra songs. Notwithstanding the fact that this is a brand new recording, less than a month old – it’s a duet with the glorious, glorious Lettie. This is Difford like you’ve never heard him before. He’s singing, he’s talking, he’s getting a bit touchy feely. And Difford’s gravelly baritone paired with Lettie’s absolutely gorgeous velvet voice is a rare and wonderful combination. Listen while you can!

We also have a great video of his live favourite “Fat As A FIddle” (the one with tits for all people who don’t do titles) – from the Duke Of York in Brighton where he played with a full sized cinemas screen behind him – plus another great acoustic track from the Cabot Hall sessions, photos and another competition. It’s a week jam-packed with excellence, true to form for both Cashmere If You Can, and Saturday Morning Music Club – and we are proud to bring it to you.

If you are new, or late, you can still sign up  - you will get everything (yes everything) from the previous Chapters.  That’s a whopping 34 songs – count em – plus 10 videos, more photos than you can count, lyrics, commentaries, and just loads, loads more. It’s an amazing array of awesomeness …. and a totally unique way to enjoy music and media.

So enjoy this week. Catch it while you can. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do (click here).

Have great week, and, as ever -

SEE YOU NEXT SATURDAY!

Bundled together with a host of extra material including behind the scene video footage from their sold out US tour, plus exclusive photos and blogs, Spot The Difference on the Saturday Morning Music Club App is an experience in itself.

SQUEEZE TOUR BLOG …. BENTLEY

John Bentley says …..

Well, its all gone a bit manic … the You-Tube film of Pulling Mussels on the Late Show with Jimmy Fallon has had over 35,000 hits! (ouch) … Fame at Last! … Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! (megalomaniac having a laugh)But thats NOTHING! …. Check this out …..

On Wednesday Squeeze played a ‘secret’ gig in Bryant Park – bang slap in the middle of New York…. Bang-Slap? ..  Is that a combination of Bang Bang & Slap ‘n’ Tickle!?

So how come there were thousands of people there if it was a SECRET gig – I hear you ask?

Well – SoMeBoDy must’ve let the cat outa the bag…… BIG-TIME!

Anyway, there I was .. or should I say – there we was – doin’ our thing AND being filmed by the Artists Den!

Who? …. Oh some big-shot Internet Public TV Company with a lotta dough …. But what a show! ….

The gig was probably the best gig ever  -  since the Big Bang – Bang,  and all the hipsters & shicksers of New York turned out to see us… Phew!  ….. I wish I’d been there!

Chapter 5 and BIG BIG NEWS

It’s been a busy, busy week: Chris is with Squeeze in the USA. Squeeze’s performance on Jimmy Fallon has been getting hits galore on Facebook, and we at SMMC Towers have some amazingly exciting news:  did we say Squeeze? Well, later today we will launch an SMMC App for Squeeze, and another for Glenn Tilbrook and the Fluffers.
This means that 3 separate Apps will be available, and shows that something must be working! The SMMC family is growing. We are so pleased and proud.
But back to Chapter 5 of “Cashmere If You Can”. This week’s lead track, Cottontops, a black comedy of a song, is a humorous look at Chris’s fear of growing old – set to a pop/punk/rock soundtrack. For many who were involved in the recording process, it’s their favourite.  Funny and dark at the same time, with a blazing guitar riff,  Cottontops is accompanied by some live treasures from the audio and video biscuit tin, and  a demo version of “Like I Did” that sheds some interesting light on the process that leads to the final recording.  So all in all it’s another bumper week.
The tally of music now released is 22 songs! Plus 5 videos, well over 36 photos and a whole load more.  We really hope that members are finding that it’s everything we promised it would be. It certainly is everything we hoped it would be …. And more.
We thank everyone involved in the Spread The Word scheme, everyone who invited their friends to join the special money off voucher, and everyone who sent in such wonderful feedback. Again, our community has grown; and with the addition of Squeeze & Glenn Tilbrook and The Fluffers, not only is it a family affair – it’s a burgeoning worldwide music community.
New members from South Africa, New Zealand and Japan have mailed us this week. Word really is spreading far and wide. Lets keep going.
Many thanks again to all our members.  We hope you enjoy Chapter 5.

Chapter 4, The Walrus Of Love, and Civvie Street

Today sees Chris with Squeeze in Columbus, Ohio, playing the first date of their US tour.  But don’t worry – its business as usual for Saturday Morning Music Club as we get ready to launch Chapter 4.

This week’s installment of Cashmere If You Can sees a song very personal to Chris – the story of his father going off to World War 2. “Sidney Street” is a touching and rousing piece of music with an anthemic chorus.  To counter balance it there is also a surprisingly “Barry White–esque “ number, and a great live acoustic rendition of a Squeeze classic.  With our special guest appearance from the wonderful Chris Sheehan, the total number of songs so far will climb to 19!

Along with the live video performance of “On My Own (I’m Never Bored)”, photos old & new, and the lyrics and notes from Chris, its another week of bumper fun and frolics all round. We really hope you enjoy it – and if you haven’t joined us yet…. Well, you know the score – we don’t need to say it. (Click Here!)

Our “Spread The Word” scheme is running really well, many members are now part of the virtual promo team – with banners and links appearing far and wide. Our community keeps on growing, we received emails from all over the world last week, and we love finding new ways of introducing people to the club.  Later today our members will receive a separate email with details our latest offer – a Gift Voucher scheme where they can invite up to 5 friends to join with a discount – and still get their “Spread The Word” reward. It just keeps getting better and better.

So that’s it for this week. The big red virtual button in the SMMC Control Room will be pushed at 12.01am South East London time …. We hope you enjoy, or we hope you join us …. Either way, See You On Saturday!
